About

I’m often asked whether I’m an archaeologist. I used to say no because that’s not what I do for a living anymore. Now I tell people that I am a landscape archaeologist. Sometimes I say ‘archaeological topographer’ if the mood takes me.

My geographic area of interest is most broadly Devon, more particularly Dartmoor and specifically the lands around the Walkham and Tavy valleys.

My temporal interests are broad, essentially covering what is visible or discernible around me: Bronze Age monuments on Dartmoor, Iron Age enclosures along the Walkham and Tavy valleys, Mediaeval farms and enclosures.

In all this I make use of a desktop Geographic Information System (GIS) to display and analyse mapping, imagery and data.
